Pick a VPS for a personal site (4 October 2026 prices)
Verified entry plans for putting up a personal site or blog: OVHcloud VPS-1 from $4.54, Vultr Regular from $5, DigitalOcean Basic from $6 — with disk, transfer and backup caveats.
You want a small public site — a blog, portfolio, or lightweight WordPress — not a multi-region app platform. On 4 October 2026 this brief picks personal-site entry plans from vendor pages we re-opened today. It is not a CPU benchmark and not a tools-site walkthrough.
What a personal site usually needs
For a low-traffic personal site most people under-buy CPU and over-worry about “vCPU price.” Write down these instead:
- RAM — static sites are fine on 1 GB; WordPress + MySQL is happier on 2 GB+
- Disk — OS + logs + one app stack; 25–55 GB is a common starter band; 40 GB is tight if you keep Docker images
- Transfer / bandwidth wording — quotas vs “unlimited” regional footnotes
- Backup — included daily snapshot vs paid add-on (+20% is common on US clouds)
- Region — pick close to readers; do not confuse location with a latency test you have not run

List prices from public pricing pages. VAT, promo credits and regional storefronts can change the checkout total.
| Fit for a personal site | Plan (public page) | vCPU / RAM / disk | Transfer / notes | List price | Source |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Lowest USD entry with daily backup called out | OVHcloud VPS-1 (2027) | 2 vCores / 4 GB / 40 GB NVMe | 500 Mbps; daily backup of previous 24h; unlimited traffic on standard regions (APAC pages note quotas) | from $4.54/mo | ovhcloud.com/en/vps |
| Cheapest US regular 1 GB | Vultr Cloud Compute Regular | 1 / 1 GB / 25 GB | 1.00 TB bandwidth; auto backups +20% of instance | $5/mo | vultr.com/pricing |
| Docs-heavy US 1 GB | DigitalOcean Basic | 1 / 1 GiB / 25 GiB | 1,000 GiB transfer; backups 20% weekly / 30% daily of Droplet cost | $6/mo | digitalocean.com/pricing/droplets |
| Roomier US 2 GB | Vultr Regular | 1 / 2 GB / 55 GB | 2.00 TB | $10/mo | vultr.com/pricing |

Same-day note: Hetzner’s Cost-Optimized CX23 marketing page still describes a 2 vCPU / 4 GB / 40 GB NVMe / 20 TB personal-blog shaped SKU, but the order state showed not available and the euro figure did not render in a static fetch — so it is not in the priced table above.
How to choose without re-running yesterday’s 2/4 compare
- Want included daily backup wording and can live with 40 GB → re-check OVH VPS-1 in your region/tax (we deep-compared the 2 vCPU / 4 GB tier on 3 October).
- Want month-to-month US catalogue and more disk at 1–2 GB RAM → Vultr Regular $5 / $10 undercuts DigitalOcean Basic $6 / $12 on the public pages above; DigitalOcean often wins on tutorial density for first-time SSH users.
- WordPress with plugins and photo media → start at 2 GB RAM unless you already know the stack is tiny.
- Learning Linux only → the $5–$6 1 GB tier is enough; spend the saved money on backups and a domain.
Limits of this note
- No invented Hetzner checkout totals while CX23 was unavailable / price-hidden.
- No tools.pocketplay.win intro this week (PDF merge guide already ran on 1 October).
- Prices are list capacity, not performance scores. Re-open the vendor page at purchase time.
