There is no best VPS. There is one that fits you.

Personal-size servers only. We skip markets with a default winner, and we never invent a 100-point score. You get three candidates and the dimensions that actually fight.

Vendor pit cards

Payment, KYC, and the thing the spec sheet will not tell you.

Backup disk math

Object storage has no single winner. Change how much you store vs download.

Try 5 TB stored / 0.05 TB down (photo archive) vs 1 TB stored / 15 TB down (hot files).

Questions people actually ask

Plain answers. Not a vendor pitch.

Is this a VPS ranking?

No. A personal VPS has no single winner: price, China routes, payment and reliability fight each other. Rack Lens gives three candidates for your scenario, spells out the tradeoffs, and does not invent a 100-point score or an affiliate ranking.

What should I buy if visitors are in mainland China?

Start with Aliyun or Tencent Lightsail for latency and local payment — public sites need ICP filing. If you will not file and still need peak-hour access, look at BandwagonHost CN2 GIA-E or DMIT: dearer, tiny disks. Hetzner and Contabo win on hardware and lose on the path back to China.

Hetzner looks unbeatable. Why might it not fit?

Same budget on Hetzner usually buys far more CPU, RAM and traffic than DigitalOcean or Vultr. It is excellent for SSH-only boxes and EU/US visitors. There is no Alipay, IPv4 is often extra, and peak-hour routes to China are ordinary. Hardware does not help if the page never loads.

BandwagonHost regular KVM vs CN2 GIA?

Regular KVM is the cheap yearly box with movable locations and ordinary routes. CN2 GIA-E uses China Telecom’s CN2 backbone, costs about 3–4× more, and still ships tiny disks. You are paying for the path and Alipay, not the hardware. The cards open bwh81.net.

Do Aliyun / Tencent Lightsail need ICP filing?

A public website on a mainland datacenter needs ICP filing and real-name ID. SSH-only use is a different case — check the console. You gain latency and local payment; you lose cheap overseas egress and the promo price when it expires.

Are the prices live? Where do the links go?

The catalog is a public-price snapshot for comparison, not a live quote. FX, IPv4 surcharges, promos and yearly discounts move. Every “open official site” control goes to the vendor’s own product page. Confirm at checkout. Prices were checked on 2026-09-07. Some links may carry referral parameters; ranking does not depend on them.

B2 vs R2 vs Aliyun OSS for personal backups?

Cold archives that almost never download usually land on Backblaze B2. Hot files you serve a lot often prefer Cloudflare R2 (free egress, dearer storage). Wasabi bills a 1 TB floor. Aliyun OSS is handy inside China and expensive on egress. The sliders show which bill wins for your numbers; the cards open each vendor’s pricing page.

Do the outbound links carry referral parameters?

Some vendor links may carry referral (affiliate) parameters. If you buy after clicking one, Rack Lens may earn a small commission at no extra cost to you. Those links are marked rel="sponsored". Ranking, catalog order and vendor copy are generated from the scenario you pick and public price lists only — they are independent of any referral, and no vendor can pay for placement.

Why is there no full AWS / Azure catalog?

Hyperscaler SKU lists are enterprise procurement tools. Personal CDN/DNS already defaults to Cloudflare, so a comparison table adds nothing. Rack Lens only covers products a person can actually buy, where several vendors compete and the dimensions conflict.

CDN / DNS / AWS

Cloudflare already won for personal CDN/DNS. Hyperscaler catalogs are not a personal product.
