Best VPS for a site with readers in Asia: check the traffic allowance first (7 October 2026 prices)
The best-for-a-site angle for readers in Asia-Pacific, with prices checked on 7 October 2026: Lightsail $12, DigitalOcean $12, Vultr $10 and OVHcloud from US$4.54, plus the regional traffic quotas and caps that change the ranking.
If your readers are in Asia, the best VPS for your site is the one whose traffic allowance survives the move to an Asian data centre. On 7 October 2026 the list prices for a small site server were familiar — $10–$12 a month for 2 GB of memory, and from US$4.54 for a 4 GB plan — but three of the five providers we checked shrink or cap the included traffic in some Asia-Pacific regions. That, not the vCPU count, is what separates them for this job.
This is the "best VPS for putting up a site" angle, narrowed to one situation: a blog, portfolio, shop front or small WordPress site whose visitors are mostly in Asia-Pacific. On 4 October we covered a VPS for a personal site from US price lists; on 6 October, the best VPS for beginners. Prices below are list prices, not performance scores, and a data-centre location is not a latency test.
Why the region changes the answer
A site serves pages, and every page leaves the server as outbound traffic. Most VPS plans include a monthly allowance and then charge or slow you down. The catch on 7 October 2026:
- Amazon Lightsail says plans in Mumbai, Sydney, Jakarta, Malaysia and Hong Kong (and São Paulo) include half the transfer shown. Singapore, Tokyo and Seoul are not on that list. Lightsail also counts inbound and outbound traffic against the allowance, though only outbound overage is charged.
- OVHcloud says its VPS plans in Mumbai, Singapore and Sydney come with a monthly quota — 500 GB for VPS-1, 1 TB for VPS-2 and VPS-3 — and that beyond it "the bandwidth is capped at 10 Mbps". Elsewhere the same plans are sold with unlimited traffic.
- Hetzner says cloud servers at its Singapore location include at least 0.5 TB of traffic, against at least 20 TB in the EU and 1 TB in the US. Its prices did not render for us today (see Limits).
So the same plan name can mean a very different site budget depending on the region you click.
Mini leaderboard — a small site with Asian readers, checked 2026-10-07
Every row is the price and allowance shown on the vendor's public page on 7 October 2026, before tax. "Region" says which Asian locations the row applies to.
| Rank (fit for this job) | Plan | Memory / vCPU / disk | Traffic in the Asian region | Price, currency and term | Region notes | Source |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Amazon Lightsail Linux bundle, public IPv4 | 2 GB / 2 vCPU (see note) / 60 GB SSD | 3 TB in Singapore, Tokyo, Seoul; 1.5 TB in Mumbai, Sydney, Jakarta, Malaysia, Hong Kong | $12 USD per month, monthly bundle | Inbound counts towards the allowance | AWS |
| 2 | DigitalOcean Basic Regular | 2 GiB / 1 vCPU / 50 GiB SSD | 2,000 GiB | $12.00 USD monthly cap, $0.01786/hr, billed per second | Page lists Bangalore, Singapore and Sydney data centres; one price table, not split by region | DigitalOcean |
| 3 | Vultr Cloud Compute, Regular Performance | 2 GB / 1 vCPU / 55 GB SSD | 2.00 TB | $10.00 USD per month, $0.015/hr | FAQ: "certain global data center locations may have different" pricing — confirm in the control panel | Vultr |
| 4 | OVHcloud VPS-1 (2027) | 4 GB / 2 vCores / 40 GB NVMe | 500 GB quota in Mumbai, Singapore, Sydney, then capped at 10 Mbps | From US$4.54 ex. GST per month (Asia site); from S$5.78 ex. GST (Singapore site) | Location and term are chosen at checkout | OVHcloud Asia |
| Step up | DigitalOcean Basic Regular | 4 GiB / 2 vCPU / 80 GiB SSD | 4,000 GiB | $24.00 USD monthly cap | As above | DigitalOcean |
| Step up | Amazon Lightsail Linux bundle, public IPv4 | 4 GB / 2 vCPU / 80 GB SSD | 4 TB, or 2 TB in the halved regions | $24 USD per month | As above | AWS |
| Step up | OVHcloud VPS-2 (2027) | 8 GB / 4 vCores / 75 GB NVMe | 1 TB quota in Mumbai, Singapore, Sydney | From US$8.50 ex. GST per month | As above | OVHcloud Asia |
The ranking is our editorial judgement for this job: traffic you can count on in an Asian region first, then a price that does not change by location, then memory. It is not a speed ranking. OVH ranks last on traffic, but its plans list far more memory for the money than the other rows; if your site is light and your visitors are few, that may matter more to you.
Notes from the pages:
- Lightsail: the vCPU figure is footnoted — servers created on or before 29 June 2023 have 1 vCPU. Snapshots cost $0.05 per GB-month.
- DigitalOcean: per-second billing since 1 January 2026, with a minimum of 60 seconds or $0.01. Backups are 20% (weekly) or 30% (daily) of the Droplet price.
- Vultr: automatic backups add 20%; traffic beyond the quota costs $0.01 per GB; snapshots $0.05 per GB-month.
- OVHcloud: a daily backup of the previous 24 hours is listed as included on every VPS 2027 plan.
How much traffic is 500 GB?
It depends on your pages, so here is the arithmetic rather than a promise. Take an assumed average of 2 MB transferred per page view — check your own with your browser's network panel.
| Allowance | Page views at 2 MB each (assumption) |
|---|---|
| 500 GB (OVH VPS-1 in APAC) | about 250,000 a month |
| 1.5 TB (Lightsail 2 GB, halved regions) | about 750,000 |
| 2 TB (Vultr Regular 2 GB) | about 1,000,000 |
| 3 TB (Lightsail 2 GB, Singapore / Tokyo / Seoul) | about 1,500,000 |
For a personal blog, every row is plenty. The allowance starts to matter when your pages carry large images, video or downloads, or when you also use the server for backups and file transfers. On Lightsail those uploads count too.
Before you buy, write down the region you will pick, the traffic allowance in that region, and what happens when you go over: a bill, or a slowdown.
How to choose
- Readers in Singapore, Japan or Korea, and you want a flat bill → Lightsail 2 GB at $12 in Singapore, Tokyo or Seoul keeps its full 3 TB.
- Readers in India or Australia → compare DigitalOcean's Bangalore or Sydney at $12 with Lightsail's Mumbai or Sydney, where Lightsail's allowance is halved to 1.5 TB.
- You want the lowest list price and the site is light → Vultr Regular $10, after confirming the price for your chosen location in the control panel; or OVH VPS-1 if 500 GB a month is genuinely enough.
- WordPress with a database and plugins → step up to 4 GB. DigitalOcean and Lightsail both list $24.
- Heavy images or downloads → put the files behind a CDN or object storage instead of buying a bigger server; that is a separate cost to price.
Limits of this note
- Hetzner Singapore prices did not render in our fetch today, and the Regular Performance CPX12 and CPX22 entries showed "currently unavailable", so Hetzner is not ranked. Only its traffic allowance is quoted.
- Akamai (Linode) pricing did not show plan prices to our fetch today, so it is not in the table.
- Prices are before tax and exclude free-tier credits. Vultr and OVHcloud both say location can change the price; re-open the vendor page or control panel before you buy.
- vCPU counts are not benchmarks, and a data centre in your readers' country is not a measured latency. If speed matters, test from where your readers are.
